SURF COAST YOUTH ENGAGEMENT GROUP
Earlier this week, the Surf Coast Youth Engagement Group, along with The Surf Coast Shire organised an event for Year 6 Girls who go to school on the Surf Coast and our Year 6 girls had the privilege of participating. The day started with a special guest speaker, Alex Marshall, who inspired the girls to think positively about their own abilities. Alex is a past St Therese student and Sacred Heart College captain. The girls then engaged in a range of activities including boxing, yoga, making beeswax wraps and other wellness and positive mindset activities. They interacted with other Year 6 girls from across the Surf Coast.
A fun day was had by all.

ST THERESE COLOUR RUN 2019
Thank you to all those who supported our Colour Run. It was wonderful to see so many parents join us on the day. Great fun was had by all.
We must also congratulate the Year 3/4 students who volunteered to organise different aspects of the day. This involved, students designing flyers, organising the obstacle course, allocating roles to the supervising teachers, taking photos and course dusting the participants with powder.
All the money raised will go towards supporting the girls in Kon Tum. Your contribution enables the girls to live at the convent during the school term and attend school.

SWEETHEARTS AND YOUNGHEARTS OF SWING
Yesterday the St. Therese Choir were able to attend a free concert put on by "Matthew Flinder's Sweethearts & Younghearts of Swing".
This is an extremely professional group of young musicians and vocalists who performed a very entertaining repertoire. There was a lot of dancing, singing and fun. The instruments of the band were introduced and so children learned about different sounds and parts played in this musical ensemble.
The students, Kerrie, Jess and Jan were very impressed with the talent displayed. We are sure this will inspire us for our choral performances.

GRANDPARENT'S DAY
Our annual Grandparent's Day on Friday was another HUGE success. A big thank you to everyone who was able to attend the day, especially to those who had a long way to travel. We know the students really love this day and appreciate you making the effort.
A big thank you also to Ty who helps organise the day and to those who played a part in the whole school gathering.
A great day was had by all!

JEWISH MUSEUM
On Wednesday 20th November, the 3/4 students went on an excursion to the Jewish Museum in St Kilda. They did this as part of their Unit of Work, “Looking Forward, Looking Back”.

MISSION DAY
Friday 18th was Mission Day at St Therese. The day commenced with a Mass led by Father Linh, with St Therese, our Patron Saint, the focus of what was a lovely whole school gathering.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in making this such a special celebration, especially Jan Fagan, Jess Chisholm, our school choir, our readers and Father Linh.
Afterwards, the festivities kicked into full swing with our annual Mission Day stalls, run by our 5/6 students, spread out across the school.
All money raised on the day goes towards helping to educate the girls in Kontum, Vietnam through our Reach Vietnam Program.
A BIG thank you to our 5/6 students, teachers and parents for all their preparation in the lead up to this amazing day and to all the parents across the school for donations and helping to raise so much money for a worthy cause.

CONFIRMATION
On Sunday our Grade 6 students completed the Sacrament of Confirmation surrounded by their loved ones.
We would like to thank Bishop Mark and Father Linh for a beautiful ceremony and to all the teachers you who prepared the students for this important Sacrament.

REGIONAL ATHLETICS
On Tuesday 15th of October, the St Therese 11 girls relay, 12/13 boys relay and Duke Orr competed at the Western Metro Athletics carnival in Keilor.
All students competed well with the 12/13 boys finishing 3rd, the 11 girls finishing 2nd, Duke finishing 2nd in his 800m and 5th in his hurdles.

CONGRATULATIONS
We would like to say how proud we are here at St Therese of one of our ex-students, Zoe Jones. Zoe was recently announced as one of the school captains for the 2020 school year at Sacred Heart College, Geelong.
We are sure her parents Felicity and Rick, along with her sister, Hannah, are all very proud and excited by the news.
Congratulations Zoe!

BASKETBALL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Report written by Harry D and Jack O
On Monday, ten boys from Year 6 attended the Division Basketball Championships at AWA Stadium in Geelong.
As we walked in we saw lots of representatives from different schools. We were all nervous for our first game. Once we got into the game, the nerves started to calm down. We did win our first game, though it was close for most of it. One of our players got sick and had to go home early and we had some other illness issues throughout the day too. This meant that we did not do as well as we had hoped. One of the teams had a player that was six foot two and was very hard to play against.
We feel we challenged ourselves well and it was a good experience for the whole team.

WELCOME BACK!
There were lots of smiling faces around St Therese on Tuesday. Staff and students are all happy to be back, for what is surely everyone's favourite Term, because we all know where this one leads.... is it too early to talk about Christmas? 🤭
On another note, how cute are our Foundation students who were creating some origami first day back? 🐥

SCIENCEWORKS DESIGN SPRINT
A group of 10 Grade 5 students (Toby, Emma, Ryan, Bohdi, Georgia, Indi, Ivy, Summer, Seamus and Ed) were lucky enough to represent our school at the Kids Teaching Kids Design Sprint at Scienceworks recently.
Kids Teaching Kids is a unique event where the teaching is done by students for students. Our 10 students ran a 40 minute workshop for their peers, teaching them about ways to make a playground more sustainable.
All schools who attended the day sat in two 40 minute workshops but not all schools ran them. We were very fortunate to be able to actually run our own workshop with all 10 students doing their school proud.
Following the workshops, school teams participated in a brainstorm session followed by a “design sprint” to create a sustainable playground prototype using materials from the Scienceworks makers space, 3D pens and cospaces app.
To end the day, teams had the opportunity to share their designs as well as see each schools prototype.
A big thank you to Danielle from Kids Teaching Kids who came out and worked with our students prior to the day and to our very own Marty from 5/6 Orange who drove the students to Scienceworks for the event.

BOOK WEEK
What a way to end our Book Week celebrations! Our annual Book Week parade was sensational last week with every student and staff member accepting the challenge and going above and beyond with some sensational costumes.
A massive thank you to Ty, our Librarian, for all her hard work and organisation in making the week so special for everyone.

OUT AND ABOUT IN GRADE 3/4
Whilst Out and About at Deep Creek recently, the Year 3/4 children continued their focus on diversity by investigating Indigenous seasonal calendars and how they are similar or different to that of Australia’s European seasonal calendar.

100 DAYS OF FOUNDATION
This week we celebrated 100 days of Foundation. Our Foundation students and teachers dressed up & wore fabulous party hats to celebrate. We made cupcakes and the parents joined us in the afternoon to watch a video of the students telling what they have learnt and what they’ve enjoyed so far. It was a great day.

GRADE 1/2 SPECIAL VISITOR
A huge thank you to Alison Villani for sharing her amazing work with our 1/2 students this week! The kids loved listening to Ali the Shiny Sparkly Unicorn and learning about the value of being themselves and spreading kindness throughout the world!
