“Visual literacy is the ability to construct meaning from images. It’s not a skill. It uses skills as a toolbox. It’s a form of critical thinking that enhances your intellectual capacity”
Brian Kennedy (Director, Toledo Museum of Art). Victorian Curriculum English: English through the mode of viewing.
In Digital Media students will explore the understanding that languages have different written and visual communication systems, oral traditions (story telling) and different ways of constructing meaning.
Visual texts rely on conventions to enable readers to create meaning.
Students at St Therese will be using a variety of resources, including and not limited to digital resources, library books, posters, short films, videos, advertisements, author studies to explore and increase our “skills toolbox”.
Digital Media is currently Years 3-6 Program, run by Mrs Elizabeth Windmeyer.
