Grade 3/4 Excursion to the Beach

On Friday May 21st the 3/4 Learning Community walked down to Fishos Beach. Our excursion helped students consider the effects of time, natural processes and human activities that alter the Earth's surface. Using the cliffs, dunes and sundial for real world observation, they considered the atmosphere, weather and climate as factors of change in our local area.
Students spent the morning listening to our guest speaker, resident geologist Jackie Richards, who explained rock formations and layers of the Earth. Following this they took part in scientific workshops that included; live stream Earth gazing from the International Space Station, a crystal exhibition and a tornado tube experiment that explored centrifugal motion.
It was a great day exploring our local environment and the sun was smiling on us.
